Race Report: American Zofingen – Short Course

May 20, 2013 by zuriwilson

Yesterday was my third race of the season, American Zofingen. This epic duathlon started and finished at the beautiful Mohonk Preserve, just outside of New Paltz, NY, and consisted of a 5 mile trail run, 28 mile bike, and a final 5 mile run. The weather forecast called for a 10% chance of rain… It ended up raining THE WHOLE DAY! The first run wasn’t too bad, but once I got to the first decent of the bike going nearly 30 mph and soaking wet, I knew it was going to be a long day.

Quick recap of the course:

5 mile trail run with 900ft elevation gain

28 mile bike loop of the Shawangunks 2,802ft elevation gain

5 mile trail run with 900ft elevation gain

Total: 4,602ft elevation gain

The hills were definitely alive, but my legs were dead! The last 5 mile run was muddy, exhausting, fun, and EPIC. All of the hard work landed me with a 3rd female overall finish in the Short Course and I couldn’t be happier. This is a race I know I’ll be putting on my schedule next year. Hopefully the weather will cooperate much better. Also, the award was an awesome beer mug, that I’m sure I will get good use out of.
